Club Name changes down through the various years

 

Darwin formed 1917 as Warriors/ then to Vestys from 1918/19 to 1925/26/ then to Buffaloes from 1926/27 to 1963/64/ then to Darwin from 1964/65 to now.They have now reverted back to Buffaloes since 2011/12.

 

Intenationals formed 1971 (Reserve Grade 1971/72)/ then to North Darwin from 1972/73 to 1994/95/ then to Magpies 1995//96 to 1997/98/ then to Palmerston Magpies 1998/99 to 2000/01/then to Palmerston from 2001/02 to now

 

Nightcliff formed 1950 as Works and Housing/ then to Nightcliff from 1964/65 to now

 

Southern Districts formed 1987 have never had a name change

 

St Marys formed 1952 have never had a name change

 

Wanderers formed 1917 as Wanderers/ then to Rovers 1925/26/ then to Magpies 1926/27 to 1927/28/ returned back as Wanderers 1929/30 to 1968/69/ then to Parap/Wanderers 1969/70 to 1972/73/ then returned back to Wanderers 1973/74 to now

 

Waratahs formed 1917 till 1985/86/then to Waratahs /Palmerston 1986/87/ then back to Waratahs 1987/88 to now

 

Tiwi Islands League formed 1969/70 joined NTFL 2006/07

 

NOTE: Waratahs may have been the Red and White team that played a blue and white team on 12th February 1916 as the first known recorded game covered in the newspaper of the time

 

St MARY'S FIRST GRADE PREMIERSHIPS

 

St. Marys were formed in 1952/53. Ted Egan AO the singer and later Chief Administrator of the Northern Territory was their first captain for the first three years, including their first premiership Captain.

St. Marys have played in 48 Grand Finals out of a possible 63 since their formation of their club. (The competition was suspended in 1974/75 due to Cyclone Tracy.)
