John Long

John was born on the 5/02/1965 and started playing with St Marys in 1978/79 where he won the best and fairest in the U/14’s and played in the St Marys U/14 premiership of that year.

A product of the St Marys Juniors John played 39 Junior Colts (U/16’s) games where he kicked 44 goals and John also played a total of 17 U/19 games where he kicked 30 goals

He was Captain of the U/19’s premiership side of 1980/81.

John won the Hickman Medal 1980/81 (NTFL Junior Colts Best and Fairest)

In 1983/84 He was awarded the trophy for the player most likely to Succeed.

John played 153 games of League Football for St Marys and kicked 226 goals, having played in seven NTFL premierships 1983/84, 1984/85, 1985/86, 1986/87, 1987/88, 1989/90 and 1990/91 and was in the grand final teams of 1981/82 and 1982/83.

He also played 38 reserve grade games and kicked 61 goals and played in the 1991/92 reserves premiership side where he won the Clarke Medal (Best on Ground NTFL Reserve Grade Grand Final)

John represented the NTFL twice against Essendon1986 and North Melbourne1988.

He was made a player life member of St Marys in 1992
